Andreas Stihl









In 1929, a German mechanical engineer, Andreas Stihl, invented the modern chainsaw. He had been working primarily on steam boiler systems, and he needed lots of wood to power his boiler-experiments. Stihl patented the first gasoline-powered chainsaw and called it a tree-felling machine.
